Oh common! Really? I had to restart Far Cry 4 from 20 hours because of a bug that stopped me from progressing the main missions (The game saved after the bug thus stopping me from progressing. If there were multiple save files I would have been fine). Single saves are great for bugless games, but for everything else there needs to be multiple

If you want to save & exit then, play on and somewhere during that time, do so. it's best to fast travel to an already captured camp or, find one of the small campfires, light a fire then exit & save.
